The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is recovering in hospital following abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace has announced.
The Royal underwent a scheduled procedure and is anticipated to remain under medical care for approximately two weeks.
As a result, all of her public commitments have been cancelled for the next few months, providing her with the necessary time to recuperate. She will resume her royal duties by around Easter, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.
“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.
Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.
“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.
“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
It’s been a difficult past few months for the Princess of Wales, who was previously outed as one of the alleged “royal racists” who made offensive comments about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie.
Their names were accidentally printed in the Dutch version of royal author Omid Scobie’s highly anticipated biography, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival back in November.
The book, which instantly became a best seller, was swiftly yanked from shelves in the Netherlands on Tuesday after readers noticed the blunder.
