Actress Francia Raisa has spoken up about her well-known falling out with her childhood friend, Selena Gomez.
Back in 2017, Raisa, now 35, made headlines when she selflessly donated her kidney to 31-year-old Gomez, who was battling organ damage due to lupus.
After this act of kindness, fans began to speculate that their friendship had taken a hit, primarily based on their social media activity Actress Francia Raisa.
Raisa on Tuesday told Today.com that their friendship rift can be attributed to Gomez’s 2022 documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, which was released on Apple TV+.
In the documentary, Gomez delves into the challenges of fame, her health journey, and her diagnosis of bipolar disorder, among other personal topics.
Surprisingly, Raisa was not mentioned in the film and Gomez told Rolling Stone that her “only friend in the industry” was Taylor Swift.
“We didn’t talk for a year after that whole situation with Selena Gomez her documentary happened… I just was like, ‘I need my space’,” Raisa said.
However, their estrangement was not permanent. In July of this year, the two began reconnecting, culminating in a dinner in August.

“I told her everything,” Raisa shared adding that Gomez was unaware of any online gossip. “I was like, ‘Girl, I don’t know who started that rumour that you ended up in rehab because I got mad or whatever.’ And she goes, ‘That’s a rumor?’ I said, ‘Oh, let me tell you about the last six years of my life.'”
She added, “So there was just a lot of misunderstanding even with the whole documentary — we hashed all that out.”
Their friendship traces back to their teenage years when they first crossed paths.
Raisa was involved in the filming of The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Gomez was working on Wizards of Waverly Place.
They were brought together during a Disney event at a children’s hospital and instantly bonded.
Since then, Raisa and Gomez had been steadfast friends, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. Raisa expressed her contentment with life and affirmed that Gomez has remained a significant presence by her side.
Raisa, a Latinx actress from Los Angeles, hails from a family with a strong radio legacy. Her father, Renán Almendárez Coello, known as “El Cucuy,” commenced his radio career at the young age of 15 and is renowned for his charismatic radio persona.
