The first Black Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay, has broken her silence on her split from her husband of four years, Bryan Abasolo.
The accomplished attorney-turned-media personality shared the news on her podcast, Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay, on Friday.
“I didn’t think I’d get emotional,” she said.
“First off I just want to say thank you for people who reached out. I’m still trying to reply to people. You just never know how great your circle is until you see all the people that reach out and love you.
“Obviously it’s a difficult time, if you’ve read the headlines, and you’re probably wondering why I would even work. But to be honest with you, I need to distract myself from myself, and the best way to do that is to do something that I love, and I love Higher Learning.”
Despite not delving into the specifics, the 38-year-old reassured her audience that she would share more details when the time is right, underscoring her commitment to taking things one day at a time.
Abasolo, 43, recently initiated divorce proceedings, citing “irreconcilable differences,” with their official separation marked on December 31.
He shared the news on Instagram, acknowledging the difficulty of ending a marriage that lasted more than four years.
The exes, who first crossed paths on The Bachelorette in 2017 and tied the knot in 2019, had chosen to keep the details of their marriage private since the summer of 2022.
In her reflections on the challenging year of 2023, Lindsay opted for a positive outlook on Instagram, focusing on grateful moments and carrying that positive energy into 2024.
Prior to the public revelation of their split, Lindsay had discussed on a podcast how their divergent career paths had created physical and emotional distance in their relationship.
Despite their high-profile status, Lindsay had previously set boundaries on divulging personal details about her marriage online.
