SZA’s Concert Nod to Palestine, Indigenous Peoples Draws Thunderous Applause

Grammy award-winning sensation SZA has set stages ablaze in Australia and New Zealand, igniting cheers and applause with her electrifying performances.

The American music icon, born Solána Imani Rowe, made headlines for her poignant gestures towards First Nations peoples and Palestinians during her recent shows.

In a captivating display of solidarity, SZA, 34, proudly waved the Aboriginal flag during her Brisbane performance, earning thunderous applause from the packed audience.

Her homage to Indigenous Australians resonated with concert-goers, amplifying the significance of her presence on stage.

Days earlier, the Kill Bill singer stirred hearts in New Zealand by voicing support for the Palestinian cause. Amidst the fervor of her highly anticipated SOS Tour, she boldly declared “Free Palestine!” while brandishing what appeared to be the Palestinian flag.

SZA’s immersion in New Zealand’s cultural tapestry further cemented her connection with local communities. At her Auckland show, she paid homage to Maori heritage by commencing with Māori artists performing the “Ka Mate” haka.

Draped in the symbolic red, white, and black of the Tino rangatiratanga flag—a beacon of self-determination and sovereignty—she encapsulated the spirit of unity and empowerment. Embracing Māori traditions, her performance concluded with a heartfelt Māori prayer, fostering a bond of goodwill with her fans.

In a poignant tribute to her ancestral roots, SZA unveiled her new kirituhi tattoo on Instagram, crafted by esteemed Māori tattoo artist Leroy Roberts.

Reflecting her maternal and paternal lineages, the tattoo symbolises a profound connection to heritage and identity. SZA’s embrace of kirituhi highlights the significance of cultural exchange and appreciation, enriching her journey with deeper meaning.

As SZA continues her tour across Australia until May 2nd, her resonant message of unity and solidarity continues to reverberate, leaving an indelible mark on fans across the globe.
